SATC-movie after thought

with admiration, sighing, *blue satin manolo blahniks with jewelled buckles*

as with the movie... people either loved it or loathed it...

the fashion was definitely OTT...
the opening was not quite reassuring... with rapid intro, multiple frames of character sketches...
though the latter 1/2 of the show was pure SATC... big out of this world dresses... the heroine facing her diaster... unwavering sisterly support... Big's regret... the alternative getting back together... the shoes... and the alternative "and they lived happily ever after" ending...

i loved the ending... i loved the events leading up to the ending... as it was the only possible ending in a ture, pure SATC setting...

DIY wedding bouquet

all activities have been geared towards the 2008 big event in november... and recently we have spent a weekend on DIY bouquets...

snowflake woke up earlier than usual on a saturday (though not early enough) and got some bargain flowers - 4 bunches of roses (2 long stem, 2 short stem) for $30... the quality was questionable, but we are confident it could be improved with an the alarm set at 4:30am instead of 7:30am...
NB: flowers to be bought on a saturday? cos the parking fee of $8 is waived on saturdays only at the flower market flemington

we consulted various websites, vids on youtube... websites like...
www.bridesofaustralia/Diy_Bridal_Bouquet/html
the bouquet snowflake got her eyes on was of the posy type, with pastel-colour roses...
the making of the bouquets was left to me... it took a while, but definitely not that hard to do...
equipment required for DIY bouquet:
floral wire (under $5)
floral tape (under$5)
4 dozen roses ($30 - at flower market)
foilage (part of roses)
scissors
string
first, each stem was trimmed, and its foilage saved for later, the trimming included thorns on the stem
then the posy dome was built a rose at a time, each time turning the bunch in the same direction 30-50 degrees...
the posy looked the best with a combo of colours and and combo of sizes of roses...
when the dome was made, a string with a end loop was tired around the bunch at the base to secure the flowers...
satin ribbon was wrapped around the stems... and stems trimmed to a length for comfy holding...

we tried posy with and without foilage... abit of green actaully accentuate the soft petals of the roses...
..perhaps not as much foilage as the above... but each main stem of the foilage was supported by wire boning...

under sunlight the bouquet appeared more natural...

not bad...
actually looked quite alright... snowflake might be able to save several hundred bucks wiht DIY bouquets...

30 bucks resulted in a bouquet for the bride, one for the MOH and several corsages...

bargain shopping for 2008 big event

snowflake is having her big day in november... snowflake has been approaching the organisation (incl shopping aspects) of this day like athletes training for beijing 08...

i have been spending countless weekends finding something to suit my meager allocated budget of 200 bucks! (to do what u ask? to dress up a MOH as ugly as possible so the bride would shine)...

unbelievably... we chanced on an item on sale at morrissey several weekends ago...

it was so unbelievable i had to buy 2 of the same dress in diff colours... and here i present the MOH dress...

a flowy 100% satin silk "cloud" (sky blue) dress to complement her full ivory dutchess silk satin couture dress... my dress is 40 times the cost of hers! and thus fits nicely into my budget of 200... 99/200, therefore i have 101 to spare for a pair of shoes or other accessories...

i came upon a bargain pair at myers for $39 (1/2 price)... it looks ok - not too cheap looking, although it actaully is quite cheap - considering it is made of all synthetic materials in china, complemented by some bling bling diamontes...

i bought the pair anyway (although the colour might be too dark for a spring big day)... i thought it might match the men's black jackets...

another 2 weeks on... still shoe shopping... i found more bargains (at places i never thought i would)... at sandler's outlet shop birkenhead...
i don't think i've bought sandlers b4...
but these don't really look like their signature ones...

more synthetic satin, more made in china, and more sparkles...

and small price tags - $20 buck a pair!! yep they don't match the dress, but the discount was a combined $159! how could i have walked out on that?

homemade hand and body cream

the only body butters / cream / bars i can use are from Lush, it doesn't make me itchy... other than that, i could only use the very basic "emulsifying ointment" (from the chemist)...
as times are tough with spiraling petrol prices, instead of spending 10s of 100s of dollars (at lush) buying creams, i thought, why don't i just make my own (or value-adding onto the relatively cheap but boring emulsifying ointment which retails for about $8 for 1/2kg?)
not that i have not done this b4... i dug out my collection of essential oils - lavender, tea tree, ylang ylang... and started mixing... also added into the mix was some left over vitamin E oil from work...

at the end of the day... i ended up with 2 lush black tubs full, plus 1 lush shampoo tin full and a green body shop tub full...

there was also the modified johnson's baby oil with (personally) added lavender, tea tree and ylang ylang oil...

now i can stay hydrated and smell nice at the same time without spending a penny... bargain!
