inspirations from open gardens

it's the second day of the long weekend today and the heavens opened...
we still managed to find loads of inspirations from the "open gardens"...
we travelled all the way to the beachside east... and was not disappointed!

there was kim's manicured native garden... the healthiest, lushest lawn i have ever seen - a green thick carpet draped on the ground, paving the way for the display of intense splashes of colours from native flowers in bloom... even better when glistening after the morning / night before rain...

the garden contained many different secret spots - secluded and calming places to sit beside the pond or to hang around the bbq... even the hills hoist was accompanied by beefy, velvety red and yellow kangaroo paws...

one can never have a big enough water tank...
water tank additions (again and again) had been the tip of the day today...

nearby in the next 'burb, was a v diff, yet again, v inspirational garden...
opal's garden made use of the nature strip as the native entrance... how amazing that things started with zero plantings and now the 3m+ banksia sits proudly at the front entrance as the gate keeper...

the backyard was even more amazing - not even a backyard really - it was a mini-farm... spaces were sectioned off with living wire fencing, each with its own compost bin... there were multiples of smaller liquid compost bins scattered around making a strong brew with water and horse manure... everything was mulched with straw...

at the entrance of the minifarm, a bunch of lavender welcomed us...

and the chooks at the back completed the picture... they are part of the working farm with the task of digging the soil and enriching it with their poo... they were so happy and so contented with their scratching and pecking...

the result... healthy veg for dindin...

we were v inspired... but also realise the task in transforming our own patch to be monumental!
